Kendal Mountain Festival Visits the Dojo
Friday, 27 November 2009
The Kendal Mountain Festival is an annual event which brings thousands of climbers into Kendal for a series of talks, films and lectures. So popular is the festival that the organisers were running out of venues and came to Kendal Judo Club and asked if we could turn the dojo into a lecture theatre.
A great deal of hard work was involved including turning the mat over so that it would not be damaged by the chairs and people walking on it with outdoor shoes. Of course it had to be vacuumed both before and after (thanks to two of our club member's mothers) When it had all finished the mat had to revert back to being a dojo - another full day's work.
The lecture given on Friday and Saturday at the dojo was by Alain Robert who is best known among climbers as 'The Spiderman' for his penchant for climbing skyscrapers on the outside.
This just shows the versatility of the dojo and this hire of the hall added to the club funds to add further improvements to the club.
