Ten Out Of Ten

Tuesday, 10 June 2008

IMG_0002.jpg

It was ten out of ten for Kendal Judo Club when they took on the might of Lancashire at their Judo Championships held at St. Helens.

For some of the members it was their first major competition but they came back home with five Gold, four silver and one bronze medal.

Jay Nicholson started the day off well with three full point (ippon) throws for his Gold medal. This was followed by nine-year-old Elliott Ross who, because he was the only entry in his age/weight category, was moved up to compete against much older and more experienced competitors. This certainly didn't put him off as he threw all his opponents with a technique (Uki Goshi) he only learned in the last couple of weeks.

Mike Horley and Jack Lashley who had been winning bronze medals in the Northern Ireland Open the previous day came away from the Lancashire Championships two steps further up the rostrum with Gold Medals along with Danny Harper. Although Nathan Hogg did not fighter in St. Helens he had also been in Belfast winning Kendal's third bronze.

Silver medals at the Lancashire competition went to Annie Jo Gregory who, at twelve year old is getting quite a veteran, sisters Sarah and Hannah Porthouse and Rob Pendleton and there was a bronze medal for Patrick Everingham.
