Kendal Judo Club
Kendal Judo Club is one of the top dojos (a place where judo is practised) in the North of England. It has a thriving membership ranging from beginners to National Squad and International players. Their ages start at around 6 years old and go to 58 years and over.
It caters for more than just judo players as our Senior Coach, Mike Liptrot and local Grammar School P.E. Teacher Dean Barker launched, in September 2010, a specialist coaching academy for talented sporting youngsters still at school.
The Centre for Elite Sport Talent Development consists of free sports coaching sessions between 7am and 8am before school for students showing promise in their chosen sport. Not just Judo players but also skiers, tennis players, athletes, gymnasts, and footballers are just some of the different sporting backgrounds joining the scheme.
The Scheme is not trying to replace the coaching they get in their chosen sport, but complement it and give them a personalised fitness programme to push them to that next level.
Initially the scheme is open to all students at Kirkbie Kendal School and around 24 students are currently taking advantage of the sessions.
